1. Lock Image is only necessary when working on complex multi-image products.

2. Crop or Fit lets you fill the print with the image or reduce the image to fit the entire image in the print. The default is Crop; you will almost always want to Crop the image.

When Fit is selected, the entire image will reduced to fit into the print box, but it is important to understand, this is “What You See Is What You Get.” If you see white stripes on each side, or top and bottom, of the image in the Layout Area, this is exactly how your print will be printed.

View Shopping Cart, Save, Complete Order

1. View Cart at any time to see the products that have been added to your cart.

2. See the Total Price at the bottom of the shopping cart window.

3. Continue Shopping returns to you the ordering interface in the product category you were working on previously.

4. Complete and Send Order begins the process of finalizing the order. You will enter your shipping and payment info.

5. Save for Later places the order in a hidden folder ROES uses. It can be recalled and finalized at a later date. Click the Save for Later button, enter a name for the order and then hit Enter on your keyboard. You will see it flash saved.

6. To access saved orders, click the Orders button at the top right.

Please note: If an order is to be recalled and sent at a later date, it is important that images in the order remain in the same location. ROES does not move images, but simply links to them in their current location on your hard drive. The exact path back to those images must be the same.

The Layout Tools

1. The Image Tool (or Hand Tool) is the default tool, normally selected when the program starts. It will be the tool used most often. With the hand (or image tool) selected, when you move the cursor over an image in the layout window, you see the hand icon and can click-and-drag to reposition the image in the Layout Area.

2. The edit tool will allow you to move, rotate, and resize an image or text node, if editing is allowed. On photographic prints, the main image node is not editable. If you add an image or text node, it can be edited with this tool. Other products may or may not allow you to edit the existing nodes depending on varying product options.

3. The Draw Tool is used to add image nodes to contain images or be filled with color. Not all prints or products allow you to add image nodes.

4. The Draw Text Tool allows you to add add a type node to your print or product. Not all products allow you to add text nodes.

5. Turn the Layout Grid on to aid in designing custom products. The grid shows in the layout area, but will not print.

6. The Montage Tool is a very easy way to add multiple image nodes in a precise pattern of rows and columns.

[/vc_tab] [vc_tab tab_title=”Workspace”]

How to Rearrange the ROES Workspace

1. If your computer display is large enough, (we recommend a minimum of 900 pixels tall) you have the option to place the Images panel over to the right. Click the Move panel button. If this button is not visible, you may have to increase the height of the image thumbnails panel to see it.

The sizes of panels can be adjusted by positioning the cursor right at the dividing line between panels, when you’re in the right position, the pointer will change to a double headed arrow. Click and drag to resize the panel.

2. In this screen, the images panel has been moved to the right, and the options panel moves down below the Sizes palette.

3. Special ordering options can be accessed by opening the panel just below the layout window. These options all effect the way the ordering interface acts as each product is ordered, holding options from one product to the next, or holding the crop as it was set, and so on.

4. Favorites is a special category where you can save products you order often. Options you set will be included in the favorite. Choose a product or print size; select the options you want included as your favorite; then click the Add Favorite button; enter a name and hit enter on your keyboard.

5. The packages button (Show Packages and Clusters) allows you to combine print sizes or products into a package. Then you have the choice to make one image fill each of the products in the package, or make one image span across different print sizes.

In other words, with the Packages button on, you could drag various print sizes out to the layout area, then move them around with the move tool. Packages use dynamic cropping. When you zoom in on one image, all the other products will change dyanacically to show the new cropping. As a typical example, you could make a custom package of 4 wallets, two 4x6s, one 5×7, one 8×10, and a keychain. Then, when you drag one image in, it populates all the print sizes at once. This is a more efficient way to order packages of products you repeat often.

Important note: Before you click Add to Order, if you want to save your package to use again, it is important to click the Add to Favorites button, name the package, and hit enter.

The same Show Packages mode works to build your own clusters or wall collages. You can unlock the multiple print sizes so different images can be pulled in to different print sizes. Also, you can use the option Span Image to make one image span across multiple prints.

Designing and Ordering Books and Albums

From upper left:

1. Show the Available Templates – when this button is clicked the film strip at the top of the interface shows the page templates that are available for use on the pages displayed in the layout window. These can be single page templates or panoramic templates that span both pages. To use a template click on it and drag it to the page where you want it.

2. Book View – this button change the film strip at the top of the interface to show the book. You see the cover and the pages you have created. In this view you can drag and drop pages to change their location in the book.

3. Reset the current page template. Use this button if you have made edits to a page template and want to discard them. This resets the template back to its original form.

4. Remove the currently displayed pages.

5. Add a New Leaf (two pages) before the currently displayed set of pages.

6. Flip Back One Set of Pages.

7. The numbers of the pages currently displayed in the layout window.

8. Flip Forward One Set of Pages.

9. Add a New Leaf (two pages) after the currently displayed set of pages.

10. Reset the Book – this will remove all images from a book or remove both the images and all the page templates. By default a book retains its images and templates after it is ordered. If you want to create more than one book, you will need to use this button to remove the images and/or templates from your first book so you can begin creating the second book.

General Notes: If you decide you don’t like a page template, just drag another template into that page and the new template will replace the old template.

Critical Java Security Update

Critical Java Security Update

Jan. 14, 2013

You may have seen Java in the news recently in relation to Java security concerns. Late last Thursday, January 10th, a significant security flaw in Java was reported. Oracle released a patch to fix the problem on Sunday, January 13. The patched version is Java 7 Version 11. We want to urge all our customers to upgrade to that version immediately. Not doing so will leave your computer vulnerable to attack.

Here is the link to download the patched version of Java.

http://java.com/en/

Please follow these steps to Upgrade to Java 7 Version 11:

  1. Click on the above link
  2. Under the Free Java Download button there is a link that says, Do I Have Java. Click on it.
  3. The next screen has a large button that says, Verify Java Version. Click on it. This will determine if you have the most recent version of Java or need to download the new version.
  4. Follow the instructions to download the new version, if necessary.
  5. Remove any old versions of Java from your system.

If you are on the Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system, you will also need to make a modification to the Windows Firewall that will allow the ROES ordering application to upload orders.

Windows Users, Please Follow These Steps:

  1. Click on the Start Menu button in the lower left
  2. In the Search box at the bottom, type command, but DO NOT press enter
  3. In the list that appears, Right Click on Command Prompt (it should be the top entry)
  4. In the menu that appears, Click on Run as Administrator (it should be the third entry)
  5. If a security dialog appears click on Yes to allow.
  6. Type (or copy and paste) the following into the Command Prompt window (it is case sensitive):
netsh advfirewall set global StatefulFTP disable
    Now hit enter.
  7. If the message OK appears, the process was successful.

Mac Users running OSX 10.7 and above:

Starting with 10.7 Apple no longer provides and maintains Java as part of the Mac OS. Therefore Mac users should download and install the Java 7 v11 update from the Java.com site listed above.

  1. Download Java for Macs from Java.com
  2. Run the Java 7 installer by opening it and double clicking the installer.
  3. Trash any ROES desktop icons or files named Launch.jnlp.
  4. Reinstall the ROES software from this link:
  5. orders.meridianpro.com A file will download to your computer named launch.jnlp. Double-click on it to launch the ROES program.

Running MeridianPro ROES on Macs

The Latest Tips for Running ROES on Macs

Download the MeridianPro ROES app install for Mac

Download ROES for Mac OSX 10.7+ Download ROES for Mac OSX 10.7 and newer

If you require detailed instructions to download and install the app, please refer to this page: Install instructions for OSX 10.7 and higher › This link will download a file named: launch.dmg Important: When installing, you may have to hold the Control-Key when clicking the installer for the Mac OS to allow installation of software downloaded from the internet.

Download ROES for Mac OSX 10.6 Download ROES for Mac OSX 10.6.8

This link will download a file named: launch.jnlp Important: When installing, you may have to hold the Control-Key when clicking the installer for the Mac OS to allow installation of software downloaded from the internet. Important note for El Capitan 10.11 and newer: Please note that although this says 10.6.8 and above, indicating an older version, this install may actually be required on newer versions of Mac OSX. This install relies on Java being installed on your Mac computer. Read all about Java on Macs and download it from this site: java.com Note: For Mac computers running Mac OS X older than v10.6 can no longer be supported.

iMac27inch_1 Macintosh minimum hardware requirements:

  • OSX 10.7 or higher operating system.
  • Intel Processor
  • 2 GB of RAM.
  • 5 GB of free hard drive space.
  • High speed internet connection required for uploading digital files to Meridian, or a DVD burner to write your orders and images to disk then ship it to the lab.

Please note: Although Apple has not officially dropped support of OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, it seems inevitable. So, in following the policies of many other companies, we have made the difficult decision to no longer support ROES running on any Mac systems older than OSX 10.7. The ROES software installs and runs a completely different version on OSX 10.7 and above, in fact installing Java is no longer necessary which is a welcome improvement. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes customers running older Mac hardware.

Troubleshooting Tips:

If the ROES ordering software ran in the past on your Mac, but it suddenly gives an error or freezes when launching . . .

Deleting these folders (or the contents of these folders) may help ROES launch and run:

ROESEngineCache
Because this is an invisible folder on the Mac, it can be accessed through the FinderGo menu.

1)  Finder > Go > Go to folder (or command-shift-G)

2)  Then enter:  ~/.ROESEngineCache (the first character listed here is the tilde, found in the upper left of the keyboard just below the escape key).

Best practice is to actually copy-and-paste the type you see here in red, to insure accuracy. Be careful to make sure you do not get an extra “space” before or after, only select the red type.

3)  Select all items in the folder, drag them to the trash, then empty the trash.

4)  Repeat steps 1, 2, 3 above to delete the contents of: ~/.Meridian3

5)  Repeat steps 1, 2, 3 above to delete the contents of: ~/.roescache

ROES on Windows

ROES Ordering Software on Windows

Obtaining the ROES Ordering Software

There are two different launch systems available for ROES on Windows.  If you are using Windows Vista or later and have the 64-bit edition of Windows installed, it is recommended that you use the ROES Web Start launch system.  This is what we label as “ROES for Windows 64-bit Systems” below.  A self-contained 64-bit Java runtime will be automatically be installed as part of the ROES software.

If you do not have a 64-bit edition of Windows installed, you should instead use the Java Web Start system.  This is what we label as “ROES for Windows 32-bit Systems” below.  This version will require that you have already installed the Java runtime on your system and that it is working properly.

If you experience trouble using one launch system, you may attempt to use the other regardless of system type even though it is not the recommended launch system.

Trouble Launching ROES

If ROES will not install and launch, please try using the other launch system.  “ROES for Windows 32-bit Systems” will run on either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows systems and will utilize whichever Java runtime has been installed, so it is sometimes helpful as a secondary launch method for 64-bit users if difficulty is experienced using the ROES Web Start launch system.

Generally, however, the ROES Web Start launch system is less problematic for the majority of users wishing to use the ROES ordering software.  Likewise, the ROES Web Start launch system will technically run on either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows systems, but its operation on 32-bit systems is not well supported.

In most cases, difficulty with the launch system is caused by security software interfering with the underlying Java platform.  It may be necessary to create exceptions for java.exe, javaw.exe, and javaws.exe in your security software before ROES will be allowed to run in such cases.  These files may be found at “C:\Program Files\Java\jre###_##\bin\” or “C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre###_##\bin\” for JWS users and “C:\ProgramData\SWRoes\JRE\bin\” for RWS users.

If you are using Java Web Start and are prompted for what program to open “launch.jnlp” with, chances are that Java has not yet been installed.  It may be obtained here.  If a blank Internet Explorer page or some other seemingly random application opens when opening “launch.jnlp”, it is likely that the association for jnlp files has been incorrectly set.  Please save the launch.jnlp file to disk and right-click on it, choose “open with”, and click on “choose another app”.  It will be necessary to direct the open dialog to your system’s copy of javaw.exe at which point ROES will begin to launch with Java.

Trouble Sending ROES Orders

As with launch issues, the leading cause of order upload trouble is security software interference.  It may be necessary to create exceptions for java.exe, javaw.exe, and javaws.exe in your security software or firewall before ROES will be allowed to connect to the order receipt server.  These files may be found at “C:\Program Files\Java\jre###_##\bin\” or “C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre###_##\bin\” for JWS users and “C:\ProgramData\SWRoes\JRE\bin\” for RWS users.

Order uploads occur over TCP port 84.  Your security software, router, and Internet service provider must not block outbound traffic on this port if order uploads are to succeed.

Damaged Shipments

If you receive a damaged shipment, it is very important to keep the entire order along with the box it was shipped in and all the packing materials. Call the lab immediately for instructions on how to file a claim with the package carrier and how to arrange to have your work remade.

Remakes

Because the products we produce are custom items made from your images, we are not able to offer cash refunds. If you are ever dissatisfied with the work you receive, return it and we will redo it at no additional charge. We are committed to producing the best possible products within the technical limits of the photographic and other imaging processes.

To have work remade at no charge, you must return all the original paperwork and prints within 30 days of the invoice date. Please do not fold, write on, or damage the prints in any way. In emergency situations where time is critical, we can reprint a problem order immediately if the images and order information are still stored in our servers. Please call the lab to determine if the information is still available. In this situation you will be billed for the new prints and then a credit will be issued when we receive the returned prints. Remake orders are not billed a shipping charge, if shipped by ground.

Color Dye Stability

Like all dyes, the dyes used in photographic materials and other imaging mediums will change over time. The degree of change is primarily determined by the environmental conditions under which the images are stored or displayed.  All dyes fade more rapidly when exposed to bright light.

Service Times

The service times listed are our best estimate of the time it will take to complete a given type of order, not a guaranteed ship date. Service times are defined as the number of business days from when the order arrives in the lab to when it will be shipped back. Business days are all days the lab is open, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. The terms used to specify service time are either same day or a number of days, i.e. one day, two days, three days, etc. Same day means the order will be shipped back the same day it is received. One day indicates the order will be shipped back one day after it is received. Two days indicates it will be returned two days after it is received and so on. For example, if an order is received on Monday and has a two day service time, it will be returned on Wednesday. If the same order had a five day service time, it would be returned the following Monday. Orders that arrive after noon will be considered to have arrived the following business day. Service times may be slightly extended during the busy season (October-December). Orders that require us to contact you for clarification will have longer service times.

Multiple Services

Orders that request multiple services require the total of all the service times. For example, if you order a 16×20 professional print, mounted on double weight mount board and the file requires retouching, the service time for that order is five business days. That is the total of: 2 days for the professional print, 2 two days for retouching, plus 1 day for mounting.
