Wall Collages

Wall Collages

Wall collages offer a dramatic way to display multiple prints in a single, unified arrangement. Wall collages are available in three, ready to hang print types: StandOuts, Metal Prints and Gallery Wraps. We offer seven different collage layouts, some of which are available in more than one print size. Our recommendation is that the prints in a collage be hung one inch apart. The ROES ordering software shows the arrangement of each wall collage.

StandOuts are mounted on a ³/₄inch board with a black edge band. Gallery Wraps are 1.5 inch print wraps. StandOuts and Gallery Wraps are available in both Kodak Luster paper and in Kodak Metallic paper. Metal Prints are available in Standard Glossy finish.

Hanging Template

We also offer a hanging template for Wall Collages. It is a large piece of graph paper with a 1″ grid. This will allow you to layout the collage on a flat surface, trace around the prints and then locate the correct nail positions. Once all the position information is marked, you can tape the template to the wall and drive the nails in the correct positions. This greatly simplifies the task of hanging a Wall Collage and is especially useful for collages with more than three prints. The hanging template is $7.95.

Critical Java Security Update

You may have seen Java in the news recently in relation to Java security concerns. Late last Thursday, January 10th, a significant security flaw in Java was reported. Oracle released a patch to fix the problem on Sunday, January 13. The patched version is Java 7 Version 11. We want to urge all our customers to upgrade to that version immediately. Not doing so will leave your computer vulnerable to attack.

Please follow these steps to Upgrade to Java 7 Version 11:

Click on the above link
Under the Free Java Download button there is a link that says, Do I Have Java. Click on it.
The next screen has a large button that says, Verify Java Version. Click on it. This will determine if you have the most recent version of Java or need to download the new version.
Follow the instructions to download the new version, if necessary.
Remove any old versions of Java from your system.

If you are on the Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system, you will also need to make a modification to the Windows Firewall that will allow the ROES ordering application to upload orders.

Windows Users, Please Follow These Steps:

Click on the Start Menu button in the lower left
In the Search box at the bottom, type command, but DO NOT press enter
In the list that appears, Right Click on Command Prompt (it should be the top entry)
In the menu that appears, Click on Run as Administrator (it should be the third entry)
If a security dialog appears click on Yes to allow.
Type (or copy and paste) the following into the Command Prompt window (it is case sensitive):
netsh advfirewall set global StatefulFTP disable
Now hit enter.
If the message OK appears, the process was successful.

Mac Users running OSX 10.7 and above:

Starting with 10.7 Apple no longer provides and maintains Java as part of the Mac OS. Therefore Mac users should download and install the Java 7 v11 update from the Java.com site listed above.

Download Java for Macs from Java.com
Run the Java 7 installer by opening it and double clicking the installer.
Trash any ROES desktop icons or files named Launch.jnlp.
Reinstall the ROES software from this link:
orders.meridianpro.com A file will download to your computer named launch.jnlp. Double-click on it to launch the ROES program.

Problems Launching ROES on Macs

Mac Users Running OSX 10.6.8, Java Updated via Apple Software Update.

Apple still maintains Java as part of the Apple system for users of OSX 10.6. You will need to update Java then reinstall the MeridianPro ROES app.

To install Java on Macs with OSX 10.6.8 you download it from Apple. Go to this address and click the blue download button on the right side of the page: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573. The file that downloads will be a .dmg file. Double click to open it. Then click the installer and follow the steps to install Java.
After updating Java, you will need to re-install the MeridianPro ROES app. First delete the old MeridianPro app. Delete it from the dock and any other place it is stored. Then control-clickthis link: Launch MeridianPro » From the pop-up menu choose Download Linked Files As (if you run Safari) or Save Link As (if you run Chrome or FireFox).
Save the linked file to your desktop. You may rename it MeridianPro.jnlp Double click the file you just saved to launch the application. If a shortcut (Yellow icon with Meridian M) is created on your desktop, you will still have to keep the original MeridianPro.jnlp file. You may store it anywhere on your computer, but it must be kept or the shortcut/alias will not work.

Mac Users running OSX 10.7 and 10.8 Install Java 7 from Java.com.

Starting with 10.7 Apple no longer provides and maintains Java as part of the Mac OS. Users of OSX 10.7 and 10.8 will need to download and install the Java 7u12 update from the Java.com site listed above then reinstall the MeridianPro ROES app.

To install Java on Macs with OSX 10.7 and above, you download it directly from Oracle’s Java website. Go to this address and click the red download button Java button. The web page should recognize your Mac and operating system, but confirm that you are downloading the correct version of Java for the version of the Mac OS that you are running. Run the Java 7 installer by opening it and double clicking the installer.
You will need to re-install the MeridianPro ROES app. First delete the old MeridianPro app. Delete it from the dock and any other place it is stored. Problems with the Folder Button

Since the update to Java 7, if you click on the folder button, the spinning wheel (indicating files are loading) may show, and never resolve. There are 2 solutions.

1) Drag images directly from your Mac folder.

Simply open a Mac finder window showing your images. In other words, skip the ROES folder button; go to the Mac desktop; find your folder of images and open the folder. Now, in ROES, select the product you want to order (like 4×6, or 8×10 print) then drag-and-drop the images directly from your folder window, into the ROES layout.
Again, you are skipping the step where you click the folder button in MeridianPro ROES. Using this method, you will not even bring thumbnails up in ROES.

2) Work-around that forces the Folder Button to work

It is possible to get the folder button to work again, most of the time. After navigating to the folder of images, you will get the spinning wheel; then click out on another folder; then return to the folder your images are in. Leaving the folder that will not load, then coming back into it will usually make the images load immediately.

This doesn’t fix the issue, but if you don’t mind doing it every time you go to a folder it seems to work.

Three Hanging Options Options Available

We offer several hanging options to turn your metal prints into a ready to display piece of art. The hanging options can be found in the ROES Options for each metal print shape. We offer easel backs for 8×8 & 8×10 prints for tabletop display. We also have two types of wall hanging options for prints 8×8 and larger: Float Mounts and Shadow Mounts. A float mount is a 5″ aluminum plate with a hole for hanging that is attached to the back of the metal print. A shadow mount is a black wooden block that is attached to the back of the metal print. For sizes 11×14 and larger, Shadow Mounts block is larger than a Float Mount. Shadow mounts, because of their larger contact surface, tend to hold the metal print flatter and more rigidly. They also provide a finished black back, if the print is viewed from the side. Both Float Mounts and Shadow Mounts hold the metal print a half inch away from the wall, so the metal print appears to “float” in front of the wall.

Please Note: The coating on metal prints sometimes contains small imperfections such as small depressions or bumps. We carefully inspect each sheet and if there are imperfections, we try to place them in the most unobtrusive parts of the image. We cannot remake metal prints due to these imperfections unless they are located in a very prominent part of the image. Metal prints are moisture proof, but will fade like normal photographs if exposed to direct sunlight. We recommend you display them in a location protected from direct exposure to sun light.

Accordion Mini Books

Accordion Mini Books are a great gift for your clients to carry with them to show off your images. Available in two sizes: wallet (2.5 x 3.5) and square (3×3). Accordion Mini Book are printed on a glossy 100# cover stock.

We use an environmentally responsible paper that contains 10% post consumer recycled content with FSC Chain of Custody and SFI Fiber Sourcing certifications. All the electricity used to manufacture the paper was generated with Green-e certified renewable energy.

Cover options include fabrics, leatherette and suede, or a personalized custom photo cover with a choice of glossy or velveteen matte laminate. Accordion Mini’s have a concealed magnet closure that holds the covers closed. The magnetic closure adds an extra, high end touch to the Mini Book.

Cover options include 9 Linen color choices, 4 colors of Leatherette, and blue suede; or use your photo for a Custom Image Cover in glossy or velveteen matte.

Custom Covers

We provide a template to make creating a custom image cover simple. The template allows for a separate image for the front and back cover. If you wish, you can design your own covers as well. Custom covers are laminated with either a glossy laminate or a velveteen matte laminate to protect the cover image.

Problems with Java 7 in Windows

Description

There is a bug present in some versions of Windows that can prevent some users from being able to use FTP file transfers under specific conditions. For users of the ROES ordering system, this can manifest as an order refusing to upload with a continual loop of “Waiting to retry” messages being experienced without any progress being made on an upload. If progress is made between each retry, the issue being experienced is unrelated to this particular bug. * For a complete description of this bug as reported by Oracle, please scroll down to text that follows MeridianPro contact info.

In order for a user to experience this bug, three things must be present:

Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Java 7
Windows Firewall

Solution : Disable Stateful FTP Filtering in Windows Firewall

This method disables the advanced FTP filtering features of Windows Firewall. This should be safe to do, but like Method 1 this would ideally be a temporary solution until the core issue is fixed in a patch by Microsoft or a later revision of the Java runtime.

Open a command window with administrative privilege.
1. Open your start menu
2. Expand the “All Programs” section
3. Open the “Accessories” folder
4. Right-click on “Command Prompt” and click on “Run as administrator”
If the title bar of the command window starts with “Administrator:” then your command window has administrative privilege. If not, it will be necessary to try again before proceeding.
Type the following command into the command prompt and press enter:
netsh advfirewall set global statefulftp disable
If the command completes successfully, you will see the message “Ok.”

In the future should you wish to re-enable stateful FTP filtering, you may go through the same process as above but issue the following command at step 3 instead of the one above:

netsh advfirewall set global statefulftp enable

The first bullet from the list in the description section at the start of this document refers to the operating system in use. Users of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Apple OSX, Linux, or Solaris do not suffer from this issue. The reason for this is that the problem seems to relate from the use of the new networking stack introduced with Windows Vista which is also used in Windows 7.

The second bullet refers to the version of the Java runtime present on a system. Java 6 did not make use of the new networking stack while Java 7 does which is why users of Java 6 do not experience this problem even on Windows Vista or Windows 7. If a user uninstalls Java 7 and installs the latest version of Java 6 (Update 32), the problem will cease. This is one solution that we have provided to customers in the past. The intention is only to have users stay on Java 6 until Microsoft can provide a solution to the problem or Oracle can provide a workaround in a future version of Java 7. It would not be advisable to run Java 6 permanently since Java updates improve security and fix bugs.

The final bullet refers to the use of the standard Windows Firewall package. Users of third party firewalls are not subject to the bug discussed by this article. The reason for this is that the stateful FTP filtering feature of Windows Firewall is in part responsible for this bug. This is only the case when the new networking stack is in use. Other firewall packages do not usually make use of the Windows Firewall filtering features, and those that do not should not be impacted.

Some security packages may leave the Windows firewall enabled, so make sure to check if it is on even if you run a third party security package. You can check to see if it is on by opening the Windows Control Panel. If you use category view you will see a “System and Security” section which will have a “Check firewall status” link. If you use icon view, you will just have a “Windows Firewall” icon near the bottom of the control panel which will take you to the same place. That screen will show if the Windows Firewall is enabled or not.
